Finally, what you've all been waiting for

Here is our interview with Matthew Mitcham, as it went to air on December 30, 2010.

Part 1
In which Matt talks about his success at the 2010-11 National Diving Championships in Melbourne, and the strength of Australian diving in general (Australia is ranked no.2 in the world after China).

Part 2
In which Matt talks about what makes a good diver, how he got into diving even though he was "an unsporting kid", being an "A-list gay" in Australia, and his admiration for US Olympic ice-skater Johnny Weir.

Part 3
In which Matt talks about his ambitions for his own TV show for kids, his medals, his appearance on Pam Ann's TV show, and his love of music (he's learning to play the ukulele!).

Part 4
In which the interview descends into hilarity. Did you know Matt comes from a very hairy family? (NB: There is a reference to Norrie - click for info.)

Part 5
In which Matt talks about his social media presence, his "coming out" experience, and his university exam results in French and Spanish.

Part 6
In which Matt talks further about his French and Spanish studies, about his appreciation for JOY94.9, and about warts. Yes - warts.

Track listing
Matt chose these songs:
Why Don't You - Gramophonedzie
Hanky Panky - Madonna
Take Your Mama - Scissor Sisters
Ride On Time - Black Box

HORSES songs - 4 November
Guns and Horses - Ellie Goulding
Ride a White Horse - Goldfrapp

From Daniel's blog: “On the cocktail menu, we had four cocktails: the Four Horsemen (equal parts gold tequila, Jägermeister, Rumple Minze and Bacardi 151), the Headless Horseman (vodka and ginger ale with bitters and a slice of orange), the Trojan Horse (a pint glass with equal parts Coke and Guinness), and, just to completely break everyone, the Horse Jizz (equal parts beer and milk). As one of our Twitter followers, SammiLou, commented DON’T EVER GOOGLE IT WITH SAFE SEARCH OFF. Words to live by, I think. Incidentally, that last link is to SammiLou’s tweet, not to a Google search on Horse Jizz. It’s totally safe.”

No More War - Bronski Beat
The Start of War - Clare Bowditch & The New Slang

From Daniel's blog:

Cocktails: “... the kinda disgusting Celtic War Party, the kinda lethal Suburban War Hammer, and the kinda awesome Unknown Warrior.”

LOVERS songs - 18 November
All the Lovers - Kylie Minogue
Lovers in the Backseat - Scissor Sisters
The Book Lovers - Broadcast
Calling All Lovers - Rogue Traders
Such Unlikely Lovers - Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach
True Lovers - Dannii Minogue
Young Lovers - Paul Kelly
Lovers (Live a Little Longer) - ABBA
Hello Young Lovers - Julie Andrews

Costumes: Daniel came as one of the extras in Kylie's “All the Lovers” video (i.e. in a pair of white undies), Katie carried many books and was a Book Lover, and Nat wore a toga-type-situation-experience - she was the Greek god of love, Eros.
Conversation Pit: The topic was, “What makes a good lover?” Between us and our listeners, the consensus seemed to be “a sense of humour”, though Daniel insisted that a cock helps.
