It's Nat's birthday!

In honour of Nat's birthday on Friday 24 April, we are having a NAT show this week. All the songs we play will either have NATALIE in the title or will be by artists called Natalie/Nat/Natasha. We hope you can tune in on the night and send Nat a birthday greeting! To send a message, you can SMS 0427JOY949, email onair@joy.org.au, or phone 9699 2949.

Recap of TWO show

In the second of our monthly 'number' shows, the theme was, strangely enough, TWO. Thanks go to the listeners who sent emails (onair@joy.org.au) and text messages (0427 JOY 949) - keep 'em coming!

Song list
Two for My Seconds - Operator Please
Song 2 - Blur
Two Tribes - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Two of Us - Bob Evans with Josh Pyke
Two in a Million - S Club 7
It Takes Two - Human Nature with Mary Wilson
Two Little Girls - Ani DiFranco
The Two Loves of His Life (Tram Song) - The Little Stevies

I've Been Given Two Wings - Cafe of the Gate of Salvation
2 People - Jean-Jacques Smoothie
Two of Us - The Beatles
Two Hands - Kate Ceberano
Two Cigarettes in the Dark - k.d. lang
Too Many Bridges - Archie Roach
One Big Union for Two - Rose Marie Jun & Jack Carroll

Costumes: Nat came as a bicycle built for two (not as the town bike, which is what Katie thought originally); Daniel came as Number Two from the Austin Powers movies; and Katie was covered in brown, sticky (but odourless!) body paint - she was Number Twos.

The Conversation Pit with Nat: The topic du jour was 'What are your two favourite flavours of ice-cream to have in a double header?' Nat's are mint choc chip and butterscotch, Daniel went the traditional way and said chocolate and strawberry, and Katie's favourite combination is dark chocolate ice-cream and raspberry sorbet.

Katie's Clutch Purse: Trivia about the origins of the glyph we use for '2' and the importance of the number 2 in Chinese culture and in Judaism.

Daniel's Cocktail Menu: How to make The Two, a Two Wheeler and a Two Drink Minimum.

Friday, April 17, 2009

Show on 17 April

In our monthly series of 'number' themes, it's time for TWO. All our songs will have TWO in the title - as you can imagine, there are plenty to choose from! Tune in at 11pm for music by Ani DiFranco, Meat Loaf, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Ray Charles, U2, and many others.

LIVE/DIE show recap

Another fun show with some great music. Thanks to all the listeners who sent emails (onair@joy.org.au) and text messages (0427 JOY 949) - it seems many people were up late on Good Friday!

Costumes: Nat had six shoes on her head (she was six feet under - geddit?); Daniel came as Ned the pie-maker from the TV show Pushing Daisies (he has the power to bring dead people back to life); and Katie was a midwife.

The Conversation Pit with Nat: The topic du jour was 'Have you ever been directly involved in a hatching or a dispatching?' Katie said she had dispatched a lot of cockroaches, while Nat had been at the births of a foal, a calf and a human baby. Our special in-studio guest, Mari, told us about donating some of her eggs to a couple who wanted to have a baby, while listener contributions included two people who had inadvertently killed their childhood pets; Chris from St Kilda, who had lost many friends in the 1980s (he said, 'Many of them wanted a celebration of their lives - and so it was'); and the Lovely Barbara, who was dispatching Easter eggs while listening to us on JOY.

Katie's Clutch Purse: Sayings with 'live' or 'die' in them, and their meanings, e.g. 'to live from hand to mouth / in a glass house / in the lap of luxury / the life of Reilly' and 'to die for want of lobster sauce / in harness / with one's boots on / like a dog'.

Daniel's Cocktail Menu: How to make a Lifesaver, a Dying Bastard and Fiery Balls of Death.
